How Many Phases of the Moon Are There?

Glad you asked!  There are 8 Moon Phases and here they are: New Moon,  Waxing Crescent Moon, 1st Quarter Moon, Waxing Gibbous Moon, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous Moon, Last Quarter Moon, and last, but not least…Waning Crescent Moon!

In case you’re wondering, the word “Waxing” means “growing” and this refers to the “illuminated” piece of the moon. The word, “Waning” means “shrinking” and again refers to the “illuminated” piece of the moon.
